Pinchot - John Muir Trail

Lakes north of Pinchot Pass, Kings Canyon National Park. One can sense the remoteness of the area between Mather and Pinchot Pass - few people penetrate this area, and those that do (including myself when I took this photo) pass through along the John Muir Trail without exploring the nearby regions. This area is known for being remote and rugged: to give a sense to this observation, Randy Morgensen - a highly experienced backcountry ranger - went missing many years ago in this area, the story of which is captured in the book The Last Season by Eric Blehm.
