Fourth Recess Lake - John Muir Wilderness

Sunset at Fourth Recess Lake, John Muir Wilderness. Fourth Recess Lake is located in the remote regions of the John Muir Wilderness, only reached via a long hike - the easiest approach being a hike over Mono Pass beginning from Little Lakes Valley. This photo was taken on a two night backpacking trip where I visited Pioneer Basin for a night, only to be driven to the less mosquito ridden Fourth Recess Lake for the second night. Both days threatened rain yet only gave a sprinkle here and there. The clouds did not relent all evening, obscuring much the the sunset and alpenglow as seen here.
