Seven Gables Basin - High Sierra

Vee Lake, Seven Gables, and Bear Lakes Basin is located deep in the John Muir Wilderness of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Although the majority of the basin is considered off trail, the frequent use of this area by backpackers has create several use trails making navigation relatively easy. The Basins and surrounding areas offer exceptional scenery to those willing to make the lengthy trip.

Bear Lakes Basin can be approached from both the east or west side of the High Sierra. From the west the area is most readily reached from tbe Bear Diversion Dam trailhead along Bear Creek. From the east the basin is most readily reached from the Pine Creek trailhead followed by a hike over Italy Pass and any of the number of subsequent passes that lead into Bear Lakes Basin. Both approaches are strenuous and require several miles of hiking and several thousand feet in elevation gain.
