Archives -> Sphinx Lakes - Kings Canyon

Sphinx Lakes Basin is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, Kings Canyon National Park. Completely trail-less, the basin requires several miles of on trail hiking, followed by several miles of steep cross country travel. The basin is most easily reached from the Cedar Grove trailhead by following the Bubbs Creek Trail. Turning onto the Avalanche Pass Trail (Sphinx Trail) from the Bubbs Creek Trail, a steep ascent leads hikers into the high country of the Sierra Nevada. Turning south where the Avalanche Pass Trail crosses Sphinx Creek, Sphinx Lakes can be reached by an arduous un-trailed ascent following Sphinx Creek.
